| About the Society What is a Souvenir Building?
Simply put, a souvenir building is a
three-dimensional, miniature version of an actual building, monument, statue, bridge, etc.
Actually, it is a distillation of architecture into metal, plastic, resin or whatever.
Souvenir buildings trigger a memory of a building or a structure, a time, a place, or
perhaps a person. Maybe all of those things. They make our hearts beat faster when we find
them ... and they make others ask ... Why?
If you're the one with the pounding
heart, look further into our site, join the Souvenir Building Collectors Society and
subscribe to our newsletter.
What is the
Souvenir Building Collectors Society?
The SBCS was formed in 1994
by a small group of avid collectors meeting in California. Everyone chipped in $10 to
cover the cost of printing and mailing a newsletter to see if there were other collectors
out there. Soon we were receiving messages that seemed to come from people stranded on the
edge of the universe: "Thank God I found you! I thought I was the only one out here
collecting these things!"
Currently there are about
200 members in
the US, Canada, Finland, and Germany. We hold an annual meeting which has taken place in New York City twice, Los
Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago, Montreal (our first International Convention), San Francisco, Gettysburg, Seattle, Philadelphia, Baltimore,
and Dallas so far. Our next convention will take place in
Charlottsville
Virginia the weekend of May 30-June 2, 2008. Click here for more details.
